Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

At Los Arboles Middle School, we are proud to implement a school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework that helps foster a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for every student.

PBIS is a research-based approach that focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behavior, building community, and creating a consistent school culture that supports social, emotional, and academic success for all students. Rather than relying solely on traditional discipline, PBIS emphasizes proactive strategies and positive reinforcement to help students understand expectations and thrive in school.

What PBIS Looks Like on Our Campus

  • Clear, positive expectations for behavior are taught and modeled across all school settings.
  • All staff and students work together to create a culture of respect, responsibility, and kindness.
  • Positive behaviors are recognized and reinforced with praise, encouragement, and other school-wide acknowledgements.
  • Data is used to monitor school climate and adjust supports so that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

PBIS is not a curriculum delivered once or only in certain classrooms. It’s a whole-school mindset that guides how we interact, learn, and grow together every day. By reinforcing positive behaviors, we increase instructional time, reduce disruptions, and support student achievement.

Recognition for Excellence

Los Arboles Middle School was recently recognized by the California PBIS Recognition System with a Silver award, highlighting our commitment to implementing PBIS with fidelity and creating conditions that support social, emotional, and behavioral success for all students. This recognition reflects our school’s collaboration, consistency, and dedication to upholding the core components of PBIS in a meaningful way.

Why PBIS Matters

PBIS helps Los Arboles Middle School:

  • Build a positive school culture where students feel safe and respected.
  • Teach and reinforce social and behavioral expectations clearly and positively.
  • Provide systems of support that allow students to learn and practice positive behaviors.
  • Use data and reflection to continually improve student support structures.

We remain dedicated to nurturing every student’s growth not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well and PBIS is a cornerstone of that commitment.
